its most beautiful
Les Alpilles
This beautiful region is famous for its vast nature, impressive mountain massif and particularly fertile soil, ideal for the production of fruit, wine and olive oil. Over the centuries, its beautiful light and breath-taking landscapes have caught the attention of numerous painters, including Vincent Van Gogh.
The Alpilles ooze history, including many visible remains of Roman culture and several charming medieval villages. But there is also no lack of culture: festivals, music, photography, arenas with performances by local manades (Camargue horses and bulls).
The most important centre in the Alpilles is Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, but fascinating cities such as Arles and Avignon are also nearby. Even Orange, Nîmes and Aix-en-Provence are less than an hour away by car. Authentic Provencal markets are nearby as well, for example in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Eygalières and Maussane les Alpilles. On top of that, the many excellent restaurants and various local delicacies at your disposal make this region incredibly attractive.
Aix-en-Provence
This city is also called the Provence gem, and rightfully so! Aix-en-Provence is extremely well maintained and it offers culture, shops, and restaurants in abundance. The city has a rich history and has been an important centre in the region since the third century.
Stroll and shop on the Cours Mirabeau with its beautiful plane trees, fountains and old mansions. Savour the Provencal atmosphere at one of the many terraces on the numerous market squares found in the picturesque old town. Or enjoy the various museums and cosy streets in the quiet Quartier Mazarin.
Aix-en-Provence is famous for its authentic Provencal markets where you can find fresh vegetables, fruit, flowers, clothing, second-hand goods and local products several times per week. But there is also no shortage of culinary addresses!
Because of its central location and good accessibility, Aix-en-Provence is the ideal base for excursions to Marseille, Avignon, Arles, the beautiful nature in the surrounding mountains and numerous seaside resorts at the Mediterranean Sea.
